Loom Wharf - Leigh, Greater Manchester

Perhaps our largest challenge in architecture since the company formation, was taking an 1880’s Grade 2 listed former cotton mill and creating a truly exquisite loft apartment conversion scheme located in the heart of a town centre and nestled next to the Bridgewater canal.

We were appointed in 2015 to create 99 stunning individual 1, 2 and 3 bedroomed apartments spread across 7 storeys including underground car parking and 8 new rooftop penthouse properties with external courtyard spaces offering stunning views of the surrounding areas. The conversion scheme also included a large welcoming reception area with concierge service, a private dining facility, cinema room and a basement level gymnasium.

We handled this project from inception to completion with the local developer - J P McGuire, taking the building from its unloved and dilapidated state through the planning application and listed building consents process ready for on site remedials.

Construction works commenced in 2017/2018 and the project was understandably extremely complex given its historical listed status and heeding the requirements of the conservation authorities whilst also ensuring building control compliance. The property was completed in 2020 and we think the end result speaks for themselves.
